Regional Dialect Meme

Can you tell where I’m from just by the way I pronounce these words? Let’s find out!

Say these words:

Aunt, Route, Wash, Oil, Theater, Iron, Salmon, Caramel, Fire, Water, Sure, Data, Ruin, Crayon, Toilet, New Orleans, Pecan, Both, Again, Probably, Spitting image, Alabama, Lawyer, Coupon, Mayonnaise, Syrup, Pajamas, Caught

Now answer these questions:

  • What is it called when you throw toilet paper on a house?
  • What is the bug that when you touch it, it curls into a ball?
  • What is the bubbly carbonated drink called?
  • What do you call gym shoes?
  • What do you say to address a group of people?
  • What do you call the kind of spider that has an oval-shaped body and extremely long legs?
  • What do you call your grandparents?
  • What do you call the wheeled contraption in which you carry groceries at the supermarket?
  • What do you call it when rain falls while the sun is shining?
  • What is the thing you change the TV channel with?

After a little research I discovered that rain when it is sunny is called a “sunshower.” HOWEVER, if you are in South Africa it is called a “monkey’s wedding.” No seriously, it is.

photo Today’s tutorial request comes from jjrecto. She takes these really cool macro shots of miniatures and she wanted to know how to put a realistic new background in her photos. This is called compositing. Composite images are one of the most common things I do. Cutting out one element from one picture and then placing and blending that element into another. There are probably a hundred ways of doing this. And a hundred opinions on what works best. I show you my preferred techniques in this video and guarantee that with a little practice, you can get clean cutouts of just about anything.
Watch video in HD.
I went a little long on this one so I had to use Vimeo for the video. I’m still working on being concise and informative with these tutorials. Bear with me as I figure that out. If you prefer watching on YouTube, you can view it in two parts below.

Also, here are the finished images I used in the tutorial.
