The Frogman

If you are not from St. Louis or you don’t follow baseball, you may not know who Stan Musial is. Around here he is known as “Stan the Man.” He truly was one of the greatest baseball players of all time. 3600 hits, .331 average, 24 time all-star, 3 MVPs, 3 World Series, and first ballot inductee to the Hall of Fame.
When I was a youngin’ I had the pleasure to meet Stan at a family wedding. It was the first celebrity I had ever met. At the time I was a baseball fanatic and I was completely starstruck. He had a golden tan and a bright, million dollar smile. He shook everyone’s hand and gladly took pictures with every single kid there. You can see my goofy face standing behind him. He always had the reputation of being one of the nicest individuals around and I got to see it first hand. It was clear that it was no facade.
He is a hero to many and I think that is well deserved. He never took it for granted and I am thankful to have met him. This picture hangs on my wall as one of my most cherished memories.
Mr. Musial, may you rest in peace.
